One of the delights we face as gun owners in NSW is a Safe storage inspection. Meaning the Police pop around and run their eye over your storage to ensure it complies with the rules. So this morning there's a knock on the door and a young Constable with a list in his hand politely asks if it's OK to do the inspection.
Having got back yesterday from 4 days shooting at a mates I know my guns are all squared away and there is nothing out of place so I invite him in to do his job. I also know my safes meet all specifications.
I was pleasantly surprised that as soon as he stepped into the room he OK'd the setup from 10 feet away. No tedious checking about wall thickness, lock specifications etc etc.
The only glitch was when he nominated the number of guns registered to me and I thought I had one more. So I pull out my folder with all the registration papers and ask if he's happy to check the list against the papers rather than gun by gun. He's very impressed that I'm obviously organised and quite happy to forgo a gun by gun inspection. So five minutes later we decide I'm an old fart with a fading memory, the papers match the list and everyone is happy.
On leaving he promises to phone me later that day to give me the Event number generated by the Police computer when the satisfactory inspection is logged into the system. Sure enough he rings up a couple of hours later with said number. So now if anyone else turns up in the next five years I simply quote the number, they check it and that's the end of it.
All up a quick, pleasant and painless experience. As it should be.

Safe storage inspection
The power of accurate observation is frequently called cynicism by those who don't have it.

Re: Safe storage inspection
And I was expecting a turn where the inspector screws something up and there is some complication.
Glad it all worked out the way it should.

A bit different here in Frogland
- keep what you want where you want as long as it isn't Category 1 or 4. Hang em on the wall, leave em in a corner, no problem!
Mine - all together and out of sight
