EY stamp

i purchased an no1 mk3* yesterday and today someone informed me that the EY stamp isnt a good thing could someone tell me what it meand and if i just got ripped

I'm sure our more expert Enfield collectors can tell you more than me. But EY as a stamp is meant to be a classification for Emergecy Use. It would be a secondary issue weapon after the point that it was classified for emergency use only. In itself, EY doesn't mean that the rifle is unsafe to shoot. Now other markings like DP for drill purpose or an assortment of painted colored bands on the stock would be an official indication that it was unsafe to shoot. And any old Enfield or other Milsurp may be unsafe to shoot without any official marked indication. Condition should always be inspected before firing of any milsurp....cracks, missing pieces, barrel condition, headspace, etc.

What other markings to you see on it? What year and factory? Do you have a photo or two you can post?

GRI is a property mark for Ishaphore. You will see it on the socket and in the proof on the barrel.

'EY' does mean emergency use and was stamped on serviceable firearms that could have a defect that didn't render them unsafe but did make them undesireable as firstline weapons; common was being obsolete or a rusted/pitted etc., barrel.
Grenade launching rifles were commonly made from EY rifles and from that stemmed the practice of stamping grenade launchers as EY; even though they may have been converted from serviceable or even new rifles.
That's why so many Indian 'wire wrapped' have very good to new barrels.

thank you guys for all the info. Woftam i plan on getting a new stock for it and making it beautiful. where would i look for drill rifle stamps and for my second question. Whats a barrel knox form? sorry im new to enfields.
