trigger pull question

I have aquired a very nice parker hale original T4 in very nice condition the trigger pull is a bit heavy wich surprises me considering it was set up as a target rifle.

My question is can you improve the trigger pull and how is it done.

Ill post some pics of the rifle as soon as I can bear to put it down long enough to take a pic. Im still at the kissing and cuddling stage at the moment.

T4 triggers are normally - as you'd expect - quite light and crisp.

Heavy trigger pull can result from (a) someone having a trigger job done (little allen bolts visible through the trigger), (b) magazine catch/trigger spring being replaced for a particularly stiff standard military one, (c) damage to the sear tip of face of the cocking piece.

I think the problem may be with the magazine the mag kept popping out wouldnt engage with the release catch unless you really belted it in.

The bolt was binding on the ejector lip.

The mag is still not right I think it would benefit from being properly fitted if I could find anybody who knew how to do it.

If I pull the trigger with the mag out its a nice crisp break.

Replace the mag hit it with a rubber mallet to get it to lock in properly and the trigger pull is poor.

Anybody got any advice any ideas at all.

Anybody know someone who could fit it properly.

Other than that its the dogs bollocks.

The trigger and magazine share the same spring, so having the latch compressing one side of the spring will make the trigger hard on the other.

Sounds like the magazine is not original to the T4. It should be a proper Enfield 7.62mm magazine with a stamping on the side something like "CR204" (forgot the actual number). Since the T4 uses a standard No4 action, any .303 or 7.62mm mag should fit without too much problem - occasionally, a small amount has to be taken off the rib on the spine of the mag.

Just a thought: if your "T4" is actually not a T4, but a lookalike that someone has converted, then it may not have the small amount of milling required under the boltway for the Enfield 7.62mm mag to fit - this might be why the magazine won't seat properly (the Enfield 7.62mm mag has slightly higher lips, because the ejector is a tab mounted on the left rear lip.)

about the minor alteration for the 7.62 magazine, good information, thanks Brewstop.

I would try other No.4 magazines until you find one that allows proper function. Then compare the engagment surfaces of it to the problem magazine. It may become clear where the problem lies when a properly fitting magazine is found. Keep in mind Brewstops comentary on the 7.26 mag.
