New Forum Host?

Post by oklahomaman5 » Thu Jul 14, 2005 1:58 am

Please tell me about this new forum host.

Like is it reliable?

How does the cost compare to EZBoard?

Any other quirks?

Thanks, oklahomaman.

That you Russell? Good to hear from you.

We've only been here a short time but all appears to be very stable....much more so than EZB. It is different in some respects....but once an old fart like me retrains a day or two it becomes second nature. The biggest change for me is the posting of pics. They all scroll to the bottom of the page, but that doesn't bother me. At the same time there's more control for the user within the User Profile as far as how one wants the page to view.

My opinion is that this is a much better place....especially minus the long delays opening up and the screen refresh rate is much faster.

This isn't a forum host.

This is a website created from webspace that is rented from ipower. The dot com name is registered and if ipower has some problem providing space everything can all be moved as all information can be backed up and saved. The messageboard itself, which is only a part of the entire space, is created from freeware not provided by ipower, and customized to a certain extent.

At the moment, Milsurp After Hours is a folder in this webspace. It shares space with www.6thofthe31st.com. The total webspace itself, at the moment, contains a photo album, two chat rooms, also created from purchased software, a guestbook that was created by our webmaster, who happens to be my son, and a couple of other things. Everything that is contained in the rented space at the moment is only about one percent of the total capacity. All of the space and dot com names for both message boards are paid for into next year.

Ultimately, a second complete webspace will be obtained just for the Milsurp After Hours. Some form of fund raising will be devised in the near future, but it won't be anything like as expensive as what ezboard was, even if this site grows considerably.

Only one thing..... if you wish to do what is being done here you will need a programer with some experience. It isn't something as simple as signing up for some service.

If you want your old handle back in working order without the 5 at the end let me, Adam or Phil know and we can fix you right up. The loss of password was one down side from moving from ezboard. Your handle is still there, only needs a new password.
