Some Aussie .303s
G'day all, thought I'd just post some pix of some Wild Colonial boys.
Here's my No1 MkIII* HT (Heavy barrel, Telescopic sight), which is based on a 1916 Lithgow action and converted to a sniper rifle in November, 1944.
It has an Australian Lithgow heavy target barrel, and mounts an Aussie copy of the British Pattern 1918 scope.
Following is my range rifle, which is based on a 1942 Lithgow No1 MkIII* and is fitted with a heavy barrel and Central rear peep sight.

I reckon the high mount is nigh on impossible to use without the cheek piece. I also generally use a long stock on my .303s (I have one fitted to my No4 and and the range rig) but found it impossible to get the correct eye relief, and refitted a medium length, and the rifle fits me like a glove.Aughnanure wrote:They look very very nice. Do you find the high mounts OK?
Were a bit of a neck streatcher for me.
I see we are on the same continent, are we anyways close?
For all those who live in little islands/states 200miles is close![]()

Eoin.
If you're in Australia you may have seen this rifle featured on the cover of Guns Australia, and I wrote the article about the saga I endured restoring it.
I'm in Sydney ... feel free to drop me a line anytime.
Cheers.
