Ah, the SLR - fond memories. I much prefer the wood furniture though.
Never played with the Sterling, all we got to play with was the F1.

I'm with Woftam - I loved my SLR, Plastic stock (Long) and wooden forend.
I also remember it being taken away and replaced with that crappy little bit of scrap iron, the L85A1 which was about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike :shock:
I am not sure about the exact figures but I do remember visiting the depot in York (Strensall) and chatting to the armourer who said that about 80% of the original issued L85A1's had to be returned to workshops because of faults he couldn't sort out. Quite a lot were for gas plug removal as the plug had been turned the wrong way and the spring pin was stiuck in the gas port :shock: It wasn't much bloody use in a falling plate competition either :(
