I had a look in a local gun shop today and he showed me a BYF41 K98 Mauser that had been refurbed into 7.62x51 for the Norwegians, or so he told me. It had a laminated stock and pristine metalwork. He told me that these are usually in 30-06 and not 7.62x51. The action has a small notch cut in it to cater for the length of the 30-06 round. It is very tempting but I thought it a bit expensive at £375, or am I being a cheapskate? He had an Enforcer in last week that I would have preferred but that sold within the week, the week I was away as luck would have it. He also had a M38 1941 dated Husky Swedish Mauser that was used but not too bad to look at. He had sold that though, so no point looking too closely. I also looked at a 6.5mm Krag that some moron had thought he would improve by chopping the wood. That would have been nice if not butchered. Hopefully, I will be looking in another shop before the end of the week. Maybe better luck next time.
Regards
Peter.

7.62mm Mauser
The only K-98 Mausers, I know about or have ever had
were conversions for the Isreali Army. Can't miss the large "7.62" cut in the bottom of the stock or..
stamped on the top of the recv. Possibly with a Star of David milled in as well. The strangest one I have seen is a Spanish m44 ? 8mm Mauser converted to 7.62,in the full length stock, not the Fr-8 or FR7 short lenght. I plan to take a pic of that at a local shop and post it on some Spanish Boards.

7.62X51 K-98
The Norwegian K-98 conversions were in 30-06.If it has a cut in the receiver then it is 30-06 and not 7.62X51.Like Taosbob,I have only seen K-98's in 7.62X51 that were for Israel.
The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.
